When you hear Jose Graterol speak, you’ll immediately feel a passion that’s inspiring.

Jose himself is broadly respected in the industry as a “Style-Maker” whom his peers look to for direction and vision. He’s decidedly innovative and modern, but produces traditional designs with equal precision, love, and attention to detail.

What is it about event planning / floral design and production that gets you excited?

I love the challenges of Event Planning and Floral Design. I never repeat arrangements, chuppahs, table settings or environments. I believe it’s not fair to my client or my industry. I am constantly reinventing and re-purposing the items I have designed to view flowers and entire rooms in a different way. I cannot invent the flower or the room—they exist already. I can only change the way the client or the guest appreciates and absorbs the vocabulary of what is seen. I constantly push myself to do better, go different avenues, and challenge the norm. I am in competition only with myself to reinvent event design.

Brief description of the range of services you offer:

Jose Graterol Designs offers complete design and production services to produce any kind of event … from initial idea conception to the final chair placement, napkin fold, and alignment of all items … and every little detail from the beginning of the process to the very end of the event.

We work with planners, but we offer planning services, too. Jose studied architecture, interior design, and fashion design … so his interests and knowledge are vast. He is often called the “handyman of the event, with eagle eyes!” He can fix hair, makeup, dress, shoes, flowers, lighting, and focuses on every little element in the room. Steve is more of the business man, but actively involved in every detail, too.

For whom do you do what you do?

Our ideal clients respectfully value design, talent, and creativity. They are honest and exude great energy. Our events are always happy ones, and the entire process is enjoyable, fun and exciting! Every relationship is built upon trust and communication, especially with us.

Please describe the process of working with Jose and Steve:

Our process is different from those of other floral or event designers. We start with YOU. It is your event, your wedding, not ours. You entrust Jose to design and create a magical, magnificent, memorable wedding. Jose attentively listens to you, learns from you, then combines his infinite talents to develop concepts and actualize them and exceed your expectations. Every client is different and therefore, every event is different.

What should a discerning bride look for in her planner / floral design and production company?

“Knowledge is Power.” So, prior to booking any vendor, we recommend that the bride and groom do research. Ask why another vendor recommends a certain vendor. Be inquisitive, curious, diligent, and investigate. If images are presented which are not your style, ask if the vendor can create something special for just you.

Jose Graterol Designs is more “boutique” than “factory” or “assembly-line.” Jose rarely reserves more than 1 event per weekend. How much love and passion can be imparted on an event if even 2 events are produced during the same weekend? We do not own a flower delivery service or a flower shop. Ask trusted sources about vendors you are considering. Look to see if there are any outstanding or settled court cases involving your vendor. A wedding and a home may be your largest investments. Do your homework to ensure what you are paying for is at the level which you expect.

Favorite time of the year for weddings in South Florida, some venues you love?

Our favorite times to produce weddings in Florida are from October until late May. The “high season” for weddings in Florida is different, since the heat and humidity can make things uncomfortable between June and October.

We enjoy working in many venues since each has different vibes and challenges. We love working at the St. Regis Bal Harbour, the Mandarin Oriental Miami, the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach and literally hundreds of other venues in South Florida.

Miami is a new city, booming, and still evolving. There are 5 and 6 star venues and hotels currently under construction, which will change the definition of true luxury.

Miami is regarded as a trendsetter in the wedding industry. Many concepts originate here, and subsequently appear in other parts of the country.

How long before her event should a bride reach out to you? What are the best ways to reach you and get to know your work?

Brides and grooms can reach out to us at any point in the process of planning their wedding. We have produced amazing weddings in as little as 2 weeks prior to a wedding date, and as far out as 2 years in advance.

For detailed, intricate weddings, we prefer to have 6+ months to plan and design a truly special experience.
